Nicole Kidman was told she was 'too tall' to have a career in Hollywood
Nicole Kidman is a Hollywood legend but was once told she wouldn’t make it in Tinsel Town because of her height. So she did what she had to do, and she actually ‘lied about it at the beginning of her career.
The 56-year-old Hollywood icon has had a career spanning almost four decades, starting in iconic movies including Moulin Rouge. And one thing is for sure, she definitely proved the haters wrong.

Nicole Kidman ‘lied’ about her height to get auditions
The Australian-American actress, who rose to international prominence in 1990, has revealed she told a little porky when trying to get work. But we’ve all told a little white lie on our resume here and there…
“I was told, ‘You won’t have a career. You’re too tall’,” the Moulin Rouge star told The Radio Times podcast.
By the time Nicole Kidman was a teenager, she was already 5ft 9in, and revealed now, she’s 5ft 11. However, early on, she knocks half an inch off. “I’m 5ft 11in. I say 5ft 10.5in, but I’m 5ft 11in,” she revealed.
The 56-year-old then recalled how she was teased about her height, with people calling her names such as ‘Stalky.’ “They’d always be like, ‘How’s the air up there?’” she recalled.
Her height has become a sort of insecurity when going to Red Carpet events, as she told the podcast: “Whenever I go on the red carpet, I get sent shoes that are always so high. I’m like, ‘Do they have a kitten heel?’ I’m just like, ‘Oh gosh, I’m going to be the tallest person – the giraffe’.”
However, there are times when she appreciates her tallness and is “incredibly grateful to be healthy and walking around.” Although, the star revealed she has had knee issues, partly because of her height.
The star’s height played against her when she was just a young girl
Kidman has been dealing with career issues due to her height from a young age, but it didn’t stop her from gaining incredible worldwide success.
The Eyes Wide Shut star recalled being turned away from an audition for a part in the musical Annie, and being ‘mortified’ she was over the height mark.
“I think you had to be 5ft 2in and I was maybe 5ft 4in, and I was like, ‘Please’, and they did let me in.” However, she didn’t get the part, or even a call back after.
It’s fair to say her career didn’t suffer because of it!
