Snooker referee makes healthy sum for charity after selling gloves from Crucible 147
A snooker referee has made £750 for charity after selling his gloves from a 147 break at the Crucible.
Paul Collier confirmed on social media on Sunday that he had sold the pair of gloves he wore when he refereed Kyren Wilson's 147 break at the 2023 World Snooker Championship last week. Wilson potted the first, and so far only, maximum break of the tournament in his first round win over Ryan Day on Wednesday.
Following the match, Collier announced that he would be auctioning off the gloves after getting Wilson to sign them for him, with the proceeds being donated to St. David's Hospice.

However, the sale was only completed after the second highest bidder honoured their bid when the original winner of the auction pulled out.
Collier announced the news on Twitter, writing: "Someone bid a big amount to buy the gloves from the 147. They have now reneged and ignored me. The second highest bidder has honoured their fantastic bid and owns the gloves. Please join me in telling @mardst4 what an absolute w***** they are for costing a charity £100’s. @SDFHC."

A fan went on to comment on the post, asking what the winning bid was, with Collier replying: "£750." He had previously shared his plans to sell the gloves last week.
After overseeing Wilson's 147 break, Collier said: "I'm going to ask @KyrenWilson to sign my gloves, used to referee his maximum break this morning, and I'm donating them and the official stroke recorders sheet for the break to the amazing @SDFHC charity. Anyone want to make me a sensible offer before they go to auction?"

This year's World Snooker Championship is now into it's second week, with the remaining second round matches set to be completed on Monday.
Defending champion Ronnie O'Sullivan is already through to the quarter-finals, though, and is due to take on ninth seed Luca Brecel of Belgium later this week for a place in the last four.
